  Steve Wyatt said:

Dear Sir,

My name is Steve Wyatt, I am an Englishman living in London and I have recently found out that a relative of mine served on the USS Caperton in 1957.

My second cousins name is Ronald Cleeve. His Father (my uncle Dick) is my Mothers (Sandra Cleeve) Fathers Brother. In other words, Ronalds Dad is my Grandfathers Brother.

To cut a long storey short, my Mother asked me to copy a VCR tape onto a DVD.

My Mum had borrowed this Cine tape (later copied onto VCR) from Ronald some time ago as it showed her with Ronald as a teenager when he came to visit her in London whilst serving on the USS Caperton.

There are some fantastic scenes aboard ship and land on this tape and I am sure you would really enjoy seeing them and sharing them with your former colleagues and friends. Unfortunately, it is not up to me to decide whether or not these should be aired. There may be reasons unbeknown to me why Ronald may not want to share these memories. Therefore, I am going to send the tape and DVD back to my Mum, and she in turn will return it to Ronald in the USA.

Whilst I am sure Ronald is a True/ proud American, his Dad was a Londoner and from my point of view, it is nice to know that there was a little bit of England on-board as well.

If I can be of any further help to you or you wish to contact me, please do not hesitate.

Thank you, fantastic web-site and I would love to hear from you if there is anything I can do.

Steve

My brother, Harry Judd Fox served on board in 1944 and 1945.  He died November 18, 2004 at age 79.  He spoke only about the good times he had with his friends on board until later on in his life when he told of the the rougher times.  He often spoke of the Navy while I was growing up and in 1962 I joined because I wanted to follow in his foot steps.  Pat Fox.

My father, Robert Holmen, served on the USS Caperton from 1944-46. He was assigned to  Firecontrol.  He is alive and well in Minnesota.  I love listening to his stories about his experiences then and he loves talking about them.   If anyone remembers him or would just like to renew acquaintances and share memories, let me know or contact him direct.

Also, does anyone know how I can get a copy of "My Life Aboard the USS Caperton"?   I would like to get it for him as a gift.

Thank you.

  Mark Muncie said:

My father is George Muncie who is a plankholder and served on the Caperton in WWII until the return to the States after occupation duty.  He never talked about his service much except when we played cribbage or checkers.  In fact, I never saw a photo of him in uniform until just a few years ago.  I've recently found several of these (none of him on board, unfortunately) that I can send for the website.

His health took a turn for the worst last year and he's in the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS.  His mind is still sharp but he has several other problems.  If you would like to send him a note or have me relay a message, please email me.

I am truly humbled when I think of how his generation spend their youth and how I spent mine!  God Bless the Greatest Generation!!!  They'll never be another like it!

My name is Harry Madison, 89, retired and living in my home town of Fort Walton Beach, FL.  Served on the USS Caperton 650 in 1943-44 as a member of one of the gun crews, spent a lot of time 'below deck' delivering anti-aircraft fire.  Would appreciate hearing from anyone aboard at that time.  (850) 243-2320.  Best regards.

Greetings,

My father, Raymond Francis, served on the USS Caperton during WWII. Thankfully he is alive living in Brooklyn, NY. He never really talked about his experiences while serving when I was growing up but recently he has become very interested in sharing his memories. The stories have been fantastic.

I am very proud of my father and every other WWII vet. You truely are the "GREATEST GENERATION". Thank you and God Bless!
